Explaining the Prediction Table

1. Each column for Preparation, Power, Pedigree and Power carry a maximum weight of 10

2. Assumes that all the 11 teams have made excellent preparations hence the 10 full marks for all the teams

3. Assumes that all the 11 teams have team Power, that is, excellent cohesion and understanding amongst the players

4. Pedigree - This is based on the relative depth of World Cup experience of the teams. Teams without World Cup experience (like South Africa) automatically scored zero.

5. Providence / Invisible Hand of Fate - This is a critical factor that is outside the human control of the teams. This writer recognises the fact that providence, whether induced by experience, hard work or prayers is the major thin line between life's successes and failures.

Providence may have been at play in Argentina's first goal against England in the Mexico 1986 World Cup or in England's Geoff Hurst's second goal against Germany in the 1966 World Cup finals.

For the purpose of the Prediction Table, Providence was taken as a function of the teams' World Cup experiences. Consequently, teams like Spain, Portugal, U.S.A and South Africa - that have either not won the World Cup or have not even yet played in the World Cup - were compensated were 5 marks each.

Explaining the System of Numbers
Beneath the Prediction Table is the System of Numbers Table. The figures in the 'Year Numerology' column is the sum of the individual numbers in the 'Year' column. That is, Year 1930 = Year Numerology of 1+9+3+0 = 4

So, the 'Year Numerology' of Year 2010 = 2+0+1+0 = 3

Looking at the table closely, the only previous World Cup years with 'Year Numerology' of 3 are Years 1938 and 1974 which Italy and Germany respectively triumphed.

Italy, in particular, seems set for an encore as the country won it in a numerology of 8 (1934) and successfully retained the Cup the next World Cup year (1938) with a Year numerology of 3!

Italy won it in 2006 with a numerology of 8 and now, the next World Cup year of 2010 also has a numerology of 3! Going by these game of numbers, Italy is strongly favoured by the gods to win and retain the World Cup.

Or, are all these mere coincidences? No, this writer does not think so. History has a sequential pattern of repeating itself - even though no country has successfully defended the World Cup since 1970. That is 30 good years ago. 30 = 3+0 = 3! That is some 40 years ago!

Now the year 1970 has a numerology of 1+9+7+0 = 17 = 1+7 = 8.
Add 40 years to 8 = 48 = 4+8 = 12 = 1+2 = 3!Everything comes back to 3 again!

However, the only strong hand of providence for Brazil lies in the fact that, at least, in the last 16 years (1990 - 2006), Brazil has always won the cup when the hosting was outside the shores of Europe or South America. Brazil won in 1994 in U.S.A and in 2002 in South Korea / Japan.

If the Prediction Table is anything to go by, Brazil may have to eat humble pie and wait till 2014 to host and win. But, Year 2014 has a numerology of 7 which is only unique to Argentina. So, Argentina may likely win in Brazil 2014!

South Africa, backed by strong preparation and a vociferous home base support, is tipped by this writer to reach the last 8. Other African countries will not go beyond the 1st round,or at most, the second round.

FIFA World Cup 2010: Mexico Vs South Africa Preview

The whole world is abuzz with anticipation as the World Cup is set to kick off on Friday at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.

This is a historic occasion not just for South Africa but for the whole continent of Africa as they get to host what is arguably the greatest sporting event relating to the world's most popular game.

Mexico will look to score as many goals as they can ahead of their real battles with France and Uruguay. Qualification to the round of 16 could come down to goal differences.

Mexico have a balanced squad with a mix of old and young players and are considered by some as the dark horses of the World Cup. But in a competitive group that also has France and Uruguay, the North Americans have their task cut out. And if they can start their campaign with a win against the hosts, the pressure could shift to France and Uruguay.

Their attack is spear-headed by 21 year old Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, who scored 8 goals in 5 matches for club team, Guadalajara, in the Mexican Primera Liga season. Carlos Vela who played brilliantly last week against Italy should play the supporting role.

If Mexico don't win by at least a two-goal margin, they will have only themselves to blame.

In the next 10 years I am sure that the USA will reach a world cup final. This is probably a tournament too soon, look out for them in 2014 in South America! I predict Germany to win in 90 minutes by 1-0.

Remember that FIFA's makes 86% of its revenue from this single event that is staged every four years, so they leave nothing to chance when it comes to the World Cup and it seems to be paying off. The federation's 2007- 2010 revenue budget is US$3,2bn, and it has already raised $3,1bn through the sale of sponsorship and broadcasting rights for the South African World Cup - double the $1,8bn revenue it made in Germany. So what else will 2010 have in store for South Africa! The truth is that the Soccer World Cup hardly touched German economy at all according to a report released in Germany. "The World Cup's contribution to economic growth has been negligible. It was great fun. Nothing more, nothing less."

Can this be true? Even after consulting firm Grant Thornton said that the World Cup will pump around R21.3-billion into South Africa's economy, generating an estimated R12.7-billion in direct spending and creating an estimated 159 000 new jobs? The short answer is yes, the truth is the capital expenditure always outweighs the income, the stadiums alone are reported to be costing R11- billion, road infrastructure - R14- billion, Airports Company SA - R20- billion, National Roads - R70- billion, Metro rail - R18- billion.

Goolam Ballim, (chief economist - Standard Bank) believes,"...the indirect impact may be more meaningful for a sustainable economic lift in subsequent years... it will help change the perceptions that a large number of foreign investors hold of Africa and South Africa." In the short term the country's tourism industry will benefit from the estimated three million visitors expected for the tournament, while construction and engineering companies will look to a slice of the billions to be spent on infrastructure in the lead-up to the event. So unless you are actually building the stadium, have a guest house or sell beer don't order the yacht just yet. The real good news for South Africa is the legacy of 2010. The improved infrastructure and heightened international awareness, this is the platform for success not the prize.

That is where a great deal of the real potential growth in the coming decades will be. And South Africa will be one of the better stories. The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup. The FIFA World Cup is the premier international football tournament. In Australia we call football as soccer and football is the Aussie Rules kind. It's a totally different game but has the same name.

Australia has qualified for this years cup and I will be supporting them all the way. Thirty two teams got through to the final tournament.

The Asian Football Confederation has 4 teams that have qualified for the final tournament. They are Australia, Japan, Korea DPR and Korea Republic. The Confederation of African Football has 6 teams. These 6 teams are Algeria, Cameroon, Cote d'lvoire, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football has 3 teams which qualify. These 3 teams are Honduras, Mexico and United States. The South American Football Confederation has 5 teams which qualify for the 2010 World Cup. They are: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. The Oceania Football Confederation has the New Zealand team which qualified. The most teams that qualify are from the Union of European Football Associations. A total of 13 teams qualify from UEFA. These teams are Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.

Italy won their fourth cup title in the previous 2006 FIFA World Cup. How far they can progress this year is a mystery.

Australia is up against Germany in its first match on the 13th of June. It will play Ghana next on the 19th of June. On the 23rd of June Australia will play against Serbia. Australia plays in Group D and will be up against Germany, Ghana and Serbia. Australia has a chance and in progressing though this tough group draw.

The 2010 World Cup is up there as one of the best sporting events this year. Millions of people from around the world will be watching and cheering on their countries. Free to air TV in Australia will be broadcasting this event and many people will be stuck at home in front of the televisions watching this major sporting event that will take place from June till July.

In conclusion, this year will be an amazing year for soccer or football for fans of this sport around the world. The cup will be won by the best country playing this year and many countries have high hopes for their teams. I am rooting for the Australian team in this year.

South Africa World Cup Preview of Games on Friday, June 18

One week into the 2010 World Cup we now have Germany and Serbia play in their second game of Group D at 12:30. Slovenia will face USA at 15:00 and the late kick off at 19:30 will be between England and Algeria.

The Germans should be strong favourites against Serbia, however Serbia have some talented player and may upset Germany in this match. The midday kick off will see Slovenia play USA at 15:00. With Landon Donovan in great form for Everton he will be looking to impress to get a big money move to a European Team. At 27 years of age he has time on his side to help the USA to progress to the knock out stages. Slovenia knocked out Russia in their world cup play off to reach the world cup but will find it hard to qualify from this group that includes England. I predict a 3-1 win for the USA

In the late night kick off we get to see England play Algeria. England with their Star man Wayne Rooney will be expected to win quite easily. Having qualified with a near 100 percent record for this world cup England come into this tournament with high hopes. Algeria will be quite happy to get a point in this game. I predict an easy 1-0 victory to England.

As the year 2009 starts drawing to a close, many of us are finding ourselves subconsciously starting to make preparations for next year's top sporting event: the FIFA World Cup 2010, to be held in South Africa. Already, the nations that will be taking part in this event have been selected, through what have turned out to be truly interesting qualifiers. Indeed, it would be a valid statement to say that with the exception of the hosts South Africa, no other nation has had a truly easy run to the World Cup. South Africa too, while lucky to have qualified by virtue of being the hosts, are quite a formidable soccer powerhouse in Africa; who stood just as good a chance of qualifying even if the event was being held in another country.

Now as we train our eyes to FIFA World Cup 2010, and drawing on our previous experiences with past editions of the world cup - and the peculiar circumstances of South Africa - we have identified a list of ten things you should avoid.

1. The first thing to avoid, especially if you are planning on traveling to South Africa for the games, is buying unauthentic World Cup tickets; only to end up being disappointed upon landing at the games. Ensure that you only get authentic World Cup tickets from reputable vendors, online or otherwise. Closely related to this is the blunder of failing to get your match tickets in advance - assuming that you will be able to purchase them 'at the gate' as you usually do when your neighborhood side is playing at the local stadium. You could be in for a rude shock, as world tickets get sold out rather early.

2. The second mistake to avoid, when going to South Africa for the world Cup, is that of failing to make arrangements for the travel early in advance - consoling yourself with the argument that you 'will cross that bridge when you get to it.' 8. The eighth thing you should avoid, when attending World Cup 2010 in South Africa is ending up 'out at the wrong hour' which increases the chances of your being victim of violent crime. Therefore resist the urge to travel at night - and by all means, don't walk out at night. Take note that violent crime, although being aggressively tackled by the government, still remains a major crisis in this country.

9. The ninth thing you should avoid, when attending World Cup 2010 in South Africa is being part of unlawful gatherings - especially protests and demonstrations. These have a tendency to turn violent, and you are best advised to avoid being part of them, if your safety is something you care about. When things go ugly, the local folks, who know where to run will leave you exposed to all the heat.

The base game mechanics are virtually indistinguishable from FIFA 10, except for a renovated, more detailed penalty kick system. The "Virtual Pro" mode, which lets the player control a single position player rather than the entire team, returns under the name "Captain Your Country," and "The Story of Qualification" lets you take on smaller bits of interesting real-life games over the past few years and try your hand at them.

The largest difference between FIFA 10 and FIFA World Cup is the teams themselves. While FIFA 10 has international teams, they aren't really included in any of the basic modes, there aren't that many countries, and the squads have no life or color to them. In FIFA World Cup, you can choose (from a limited pool) which players will represent their countries, which is an even more satisfying managerial choice than choosing squads at the club level. I think it's ridiculous that Vincenzo Iaquinta is a starting striker for Italy, so I can replace him with Giampaolo Pazzini any time I like. Coaches for a large number of teams are even modeled in-game, a nice bit of color for real fans. The entire game is basically made up of all-star teams, so the match-ups are just that much more interesting, and the nationalistic rivalries are more exciting to ponder than the local rivalries club teams usually deal with. If you start up a game between Cuba and the United States, the commentators will actually talk before the game about the tense history between the two countries, an awesome addition to the game.

The new penalty system adds more detail and tension to an already interesting meta-game within FIFA. Penalties are especially important in the World Cup (the last World Cup ended with a penalty shootout, after all) and the new system lets you try virtually everything a real player can do. There's an extra variable to worry about in the composure bar, which determines the amount of error in your shot, and you have to be gentle with aiming your shot so as not to kick it too far left or right. If you're feeling cocky and want to try a chip shot, you're welcome to, but the shot will be much harder to keep on frame. Or if you feel like attempting the famous Cristiano Ronaldo tactic of a sudden studder-step to try and see the goalie's diving intentions, it's all allowed in-game.

The "Captain Your Country" mode is a nice addition with a few flaws. There just aren't as many matches for a single player to worry about in international soccer, which is both good and bad for this mode. It's good in that it doesn't take forever for anything to happen. It's bad in that even on the harder difficulties, you'll have virtually no trouble soaring into the starting eleven of your country's team. There's not a lot of challenge to it if you can play competently. Another issue is that if your team fails to qualify for the World Cup or otherwise disappoints, then you're done. There is no next year to hope for, because that will have to wait for the next FIFA World Cup game.

FIFA World Cup isn't as detailed as FIFA 10, but it's still incredibly hard to resist for fans of international soccer. The graphics are even more beautiful, the gameplay is slightly improved, and the matchups are more interesting. The atmosphere of a World Cup is conveyed pretty well, and you just get the sense that every victory is that much more important than anything your club team did in FIFA 10. It's not a real game improvement but instead a natural advantage that FIFA World Cup has, but that doesn't make it any less valid for the player.

You're even more advanced than the Germans were four years ago...Any doubts are completely unfair. This country - and I know this country - is absolutely capable." Seigler capped it off with acknowledging that the previous host, Germany, had also faced adversity and added: "At least South Africa's economy is growing - Germany's is not."

In 2008 the rumour mill has not stopped churning out doubts about whether South Africa will host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Word on the street is that the 2010 World Cup preparations have been plagued by a host of problems that could compromise vital deadlines. Stadium construction delays, striking workers, security fears, transport problems and the possibility of power outages are running rampant.

Port Elizabeth stadium is one of the main venues in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and is yet to be completed. Next year's Confederations Cup, a precursor to the competition for the World Cup, was slated to take place in the stadium but has since been pulled out of the Cup.

In an interview in Die Welt newspaper published on Monday July 14th, 2008 Franz Beckenbauer confirmed the event would be held in South Africa: "We in the FIFA executive are doing everything to have the World Cup take place in South Africa, even if we have to shut an eye every now and then. But I am sure that the World Cup in South Africa will take place."

However, Beckenbauer was out of the loop when it came to any knowledge about FIFA chief Sepp Blatter's actively searching for countries that would be ale to host the championship in the case of a natural catastrophe. In an interview with Sky News Beckenbauer explained: "Honestly, it was a surprise for me. I myself sit in FIFA's executive and even I don't know who are Blatter's candidates."
Whether the public is getting a load of double-speak about the whole affair is debatable. But on the bright side, it has been announced that vuvuzelas will not be banned.

Vuvuzelas, sometimes referred to as 'lepatatas' are air horns approximately one metre in length made from plastic and commonly seen at football matches all over the world. The name is said to originate from the Zulu for "making noise" although this is hotly disputed. Others say the name originates from the fact it makes a "vuvu" sound when blown, or even comes from the township slang related to the word for "shower".

Kaizer Chiefs supporters' spokesperson Saddam Maake who is credited with popularising the instrument was overjoyed to hear that the vuvuzela ban had been lifted: "When we got the message that vuvuzelas were going to be banned, we were disappointed. We knew it had become part of our culture and offered free entertainment during matches. I felt over the moon when I heard about the lifting of the ban."

Critics of the instrument feel that the noise detracts from the game, but Maake explains that people need to be educated about how to use the vuvuzelas correctly: "They have to know that you cannot blow it during moments of silence and when they blow it during the game they should do it to make rhythmic music."

The first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930 and has gained strength from year to year for every four years, halted only twice in1942 and 1946 by World War II.

In the eighteen FIFA tournaments that have been held seven nations have won the title. Brazil has the most World Cups team, having won the tournament five times. The current World Champions, Italy, follow with four titles, while Germany holds three. The other former champions are Uruguay (winners of the inaugural tournament) and Argentina with two titles each. England and France hold one title each.

The most recent World Cup Finals were held in Germany, where Italy was crowned the champion after beating France in the final.

Four cities in South Africa that will hold the world cup match are Rustenburg, Pretoria, Johannesburg, and Bloemfontein. They are all ready for preparing the stadium and other supporting facilities. One thing that becomes critic for the preparation is the transportation mode, especially for the supporters that will come to the South Africa. FIFA thinks that the transportation that is available is not enough to cover the supporters. South Africa then solves this problem by buying some 500 buses which are called 'translux'.

About the national team, South Africa is stating that they are ready and optimistic that they will give great battle for other teams. They promise to make a surprise in the World Cup in their own home. Of course it's a big chance for them to do it. But, of course it's not an easy way to do. It needs hard work and support from all the South African people. They believe that the support from the South African people will give the Great Spirit to win and defeat other teams they meet.

The nations that will take part in this event come from five continents. They are divided into eight groups. South Africa itself will be in group A with Mexico, Uruguay, and France. Group B will become a hell group that will perform big teams; they are Argentina, Nigeria, Republic of Korea, and Greece. In Group C there will be England, USA, Algeria, and Slovenia. Great team Germany will be in group D with Australia, Serbia, and Ghana. Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, and Cameroon will in group E. In group F there are Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand, and Slovakia. Brazil, 'the king of World Cup' will be in group G with Korea DPR, Ivory Coast, and Portugal. The last, group H will be battles between Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, and Chile. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Venues - Rustenburg

The countdown to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa has begun in earnest and the spotlight begins to fall on the venues as soccer fans from around the world check out the destinations from where their favoured teams begin the adventure which they all hope will lead to the Final in Johannesburg's Soccer City on July 11th.

Rustenburg is a city of over 400,000 in South Africa's North West Province in the foothills of the Magaliesburg Mountains. Home to the Bafokeng Nation the region is rich in mineral wealth, particularly platinum. Close by is Pilanesberg Game Reserve, the fourth largest National Park in South Africa where a wide array of southern African wildlife can be found including lions, elephants, white and black rhinos, buffaloes, leopards and zebras. If wildlife is not your thing then Rustenburg is a mere 30km from Sun City, South Africa's premier holiday resort, with its many entertainment and relaxation opportunities. Sunny all year round, World Cup temperatures should average about 16°C but it can get cold at night due to the altitude of 1500m.

Rustenburg's brand new Royal Bafokeng Stadium with a capacity of 42,000 will play host to Five Group Matches plus one Round of 16 match between June 12th and June 26th. First up its England versus USA, a Group C match scheduled for 20:30 on June 12th. New Zealand and Slovakia play their Group F match at 13:30 on June 15th. On June 19th at 16:00 it's the Group D match between Ghana and Australia. The all South American Group A clash between Mexico and Uruguay takes place at 16:00 on June 22nd. The final Group match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium sees Denmark take on Japan on 24th June at 20:30. Two days later on June 26th a Round of 16 match takes place between the winners of Group C and the runners up from Group D.
